About Me
Dominique Rodríguez is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the University of New Mexico, Valencia campus. She is a doctoral candidate and instructor in the Chicana and Chicano Studies Department at the University of New Mexico and has also taught in the Department of Languages and Culture at New Mexico Highlands University. She holds an MA in Spanish with a concentration in Hispanic Linguistics. She is a generational New Mexican whose teaching experience includes courses in Spanish as a heritage language, Spanish as a second language, and Chicana/o/x history and cultural studies.
Her teaching, scholarship, and organizing emphasize community empowerment through self-determination. Her current research projects examine intersections of identity, culture, spirituality, and resistance in New Mexico. Her dissertation research examines the role of gendered power dynamics in Chicana/o/x spiritual beliefs, cultural norms, and traditional medicine practices.
